Description: Men of the 2nd Battalion, 165th Infantry, attacking Butaritari, Yellow Beach Two, find it slow going in the coral bottom waters. Japs are firing machine guns from the two wrecked ships (right), eight hundred yards away. Assault barge (right) where Jap machine gun fire strafed and hit the operator and gun crew, is grounded on the coral reef. Smoke rising from the island is from oil dumps hit by naval gun fire. Medium tanks (left center) are mopping up any Jap machine gun emplacements ion the area.
